Graduate Geologist
(Database/GIS)
Key Responsibilities
Geological Data Cleaning & Modeling Preparation: Clean, validate, and standardize historical drilling, assay, geochemical, and tenement datasets to ensure seamless integration into database systems and 3D geological modeling software.
Spatial & GIS Quality Control: Perform rigorous QA/QC on spatial and non-spatial datasets using QGIS. Verify collar locations, spatial overlays, cross-sections, coordinate reference systems (CRS), and metadata prior to final reporting.
Data Management & Client Coordination: Maintain organized, structured GIS repositories and geological databases in cloud platforms (SharePoint, OneDrive). Monitor project data, maintain version control, and ensure deliverables meet client standards.
Workflow Automation & Data Pipelines: Write basic SQL queries and Python scripts to automate repetitive data extraction, transformation, and validation tasks. Document error logs, data processing workflows, and data status reports.
Continuous Improvement & AI Optimization: Leverage AI tools and assistants to optimize GIS processing, database querying, and technical documentation workflows.
Technical Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Geology or a closely related Geosciences field.
Work Experience: 1-3 years of experience.
GIS Software: Hands-on proficiency in GIS software (preferably QGIS), including managing vector, raster, coordinate reference systems (CRS), and map layouts.
Advanced Excel Skills (1–3 years): Proficiency in advanced Excel functions (XLOOKUP/VLOOKUP, Pivot Tables, logical formulas, data cleaning, and handling large tabular datasets).
SQL & Python Skills (0–2 years): Basic-to-intermediate knowledge of SQL and Python (particularly pandas) applied to data cleaning, manipulation, and workflow automation.
AI-Assisted Workflows: Familiarity with the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools and assistants to support GIS and Database workflow optimization is advantageous.
Mining & Exploration Data (Preferred): Exposure to geological, geophysical, geochemical, drillhole, or tenement datasets is an advantage.
